ha! #fuchsia lipstick on the pop filter from last time. now recording bgvs on “when you’re in love”
holy overtones & screeching as i’m writing/recording these vocal parts. where my #musicnerds at
crazy opera soprano is making an appearance on this one. don’t worry it will be reverbed out & a layer;) #WhenUrInLove
femme fatalle, james bond, flamenco guitar, strings … i’m giving too much away #WhenUrInLove
whatevs;) i already did a huge ustream during the guitar & drums sessions on this song.. so you can hear the whole thing there (in progress)
might triple (or more) these vocal parts.. & give them different qualities to sound like more like a real choir & just not a bunch of Joys
one challenge is writing the 4 parts and giving them nice movement. the next challenge is remembering the whole thing u just wrote as u sing
oooohs that turn into aaaahs
so we had to do these rerecords of some old famous movie themes – I had to figure out the parts & be the whole choir…
had to make it sound as close to the original.. and that’s my inspiration for these bgvs;) how I recorded them & my tone of voice, etc
I’m often characters when I sing backup vocals. I’m not me
you can’t sing well if you have to pee. and you’re gonna have to pee if you keep drinking water cause you’re singing!
round and round we go
always sing the difficult stuff (in this case, super-high 1st soprano) first! (if you’re planning on wailing tons of vocals) cause…
cause your voice will get tired… especially if it’s 4:30am & you sang all the other stuff first so you could enjoy singing against it oops
smiling will give you a different vocal tone (if you’re doubling, tripling a vocal part but trying to sound like different people)
if you have to hold out long notes, anchor them in your diaphragm (kindof like squeezing your ab muscles!!!)
(it certainly feels like a workout. i wonder if i’m burning any calories)
😉
crap, the sun! finished recording backup vocals on #WhenUrInLove so goooodnight!
